What
is the ENC process?
Electra
Non-Corrosive (ENC) is a form of nitrocaburization, an all
gaseous surface treatment process used to increase strength,
wear, and corrosion protection of steel components, resulting in
a highly corrosive resistant black finish with surface hardening
in
excess of 60Rc.
" How does
ENC work?
ENC is a multi-layer structure. The outermost,
black surface
layer is iron ixide, which offers corrosion
protection and an
attractive finish. Below this is an iron epsilon providing strength
and fatigue properties.
"
How does it compare?
When compared to Hard Chrome, Double Chrome, and
Electroless Nickel, ENC outperformed 1480 hours to 70 hours
before showing signs of corrosion.
